Jennifer and Jon: A Washington Diamond Wedding Story
Monday, June 20, 2011 at 9:34PM We have the pleasure of meeting thousands of brides and grooms over the years. We try to create unique, personal, and memorable experiences for each and every one of them.
Nearly five years ago, we had the pleasure of meeting one of our favorite couples. As their fourth anniversary approaches, we wanted to feature this special couple on our blog and ask them a few questions related to their engagement, their wedding day, and their experience with Washington Diamond.
Jennifer, how did Jon propose? We'd love to hear about it!
We went to McCormick and Schmick’s in Reston Town Center, a special restaurant we would frequent for special occasions, to celebrate our three-year anniversary of dating. When we got to our table, I noticed a beautiful arrangement of my favorite flowers, gerbera daisies on our table. I asked Jon about that and he just smiled. Before I knew it he was down on one knee holding open a redwood box with a gorgeous ring inside. I, of course, said yes and then cried! We headed back to my apartment and as we walked in I noticed the place was decorated with candles and flowers. Jon had two of our friends set this all up while we were away. It was truly extraordinary evening and we spent the rest of the night calling family and friends, staring at my ring, and enjoying the moment!
Jennifer's Beautiful Dress from White Lace & Promises in Knoxville, TNJennifer, what were some of your favorite moments from your wedding day?
- Walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing Jon waiting for me with a big smile.
- We hired Big Ray and the Kool Kats to play at our reception. Jon had been a roadie for them in high school and knew Big Ray well. It was really special for him and he even played his sax and sang with them towards the end of the evening.
- Being surrounded by friends and family the whole evening and sharing each moment with them. My sister, an artist and graphic designer, even made all of our invitations and programs for the big day.
Jon, why did you select Washington Diamond for one of the most important purchases of your life?
At Washington Diamond, I didn’t feel like a customer, I felt like a personal client of Tom’s. In follow-up visits, I had the opportunity of working with other staff members and they all treated me as their most important appointment of the day. Also, I appreciated his honesty when it came to understanding why some diamonds cost more than others. He even showed me how to properly use a loupe to inspect some of his inventory close up!
Jennifer, we know you are a busy Mom! What are your must-wear jewelry pieces you put on every day?
My son, Daniel, is almost 8 months old and tends to pull at any jewelry that I wear now, so I just wear a few special pieces. (1) A simple necklace Jon gave me while we were still in college (2) My engagement ring and wedding band of course (3) A watch Jon gave me for a birthday gift one year (4) and a pair of diamond stud earrings also from Washington Diamond that Jon got me for our first anniversary. They are simple, yet elegant and look great with a t-shirt or when I’m all dressed up.

Our wedding bands were blessed by the priest that preformed are wedding ceremony. So they aren’t just a sign of our commitment to one another but also our commitment to God and a reminder, as our vows said, to take care of each other during both the good and bad times.
Jennifer and Jon now live in Alabama with their adorable son Daniel, and we miss their more frequent visits. However, we look forward to keeping in touch with them over the years and seeing them when they visit DC to see friends and family.
Jennifer and Jon – thank you for sharing your story and for being a part of our Washington Diamond family.
